Here is the template to draw out a one piece full
scallop tail roof cap made for our client; Michael Wilder in Arlington
Heights, Illinois to go on their house turret.
This shows the tabs we cut
out to bend over to create the safety hem along the bottom edge to also
add strength to that leading edge of the roof cap. It would of course
be easier to just cut a smooth curve and leave it at that, but our standards
are so high we are willing to do 3 times as much work to make this a
better product.
This shows the hidden lower
base anchor for the finial support pipe we custom built.
The copper plate here is
attached to the primed and painted wood block with Gorilla Glue and
these 8 stainless steel screws. I pre-drill the holes so the wood would
not crack.
Their roof is only a 13/12
pitch, but we made this roof cap to have a 20/12 pitch to allow for
this space in the top for the lower brace for the 7" of the pipe inside
this cap. The copper pipe is secured into the block with the glue and
the assembly is riveted up into the roof cap with 16 copper rivets.
This turret roof cap 33"
wide with the scalloped tails. This was the first cap we have made with
a larger 1" finial support pipe in it for the odd sized brass pipe they
used in the construction of this Lancelot finial.
