CBD's Skiba Copper Roof Caps Page

This is a copper roof cap I made for Arlene & Lloyd Skiba in Langley, BC Canada for their 8 sided turret on their house. This shows the aluminum template I made to draw out the base section. I was able to form all 8 sides in one piece.

This main base section supports the bottom of the finial support pipe, where the steeple cone supports the top of this pipe. Below shows before it was caulked over the solder and rivets to make certain they will never leak. I then covered the caulk with a special tape to shield it from oxygen to increase it's life span.

The underside shot above shows the wood blocks in place with the copper screen attached with stainless steel staples. The underside has been recaulked over the seams and rivets. All the screw holes in the blocks were pre-drilled, so they will not crack and split. These black painted wood blocks were made to be used as 1.5" spacers for venting the roof under the cap, as well as giving the roof cap bottom design edges a better visual distinction than if they were to just lay flat on the roofing. Each block has a pair of holes drilled and counter sunk for the 3" deck screws to lock them to the roof.

These photos shows the steeple cone attached and sealed at the top with a copper plumbing pipe reducer to cover the top of the steeple cone and soldered in place to hold the top of the finial support pipe in place to have a strong hold for the next century of stormy weather. They had bought a Lancelot style finial for this roof cap, but to show it off here I set a 40" tall Morgana style finial I had here on it. I supplied the solid brass mast rod for their finial.

The final cost was $891.60 with this finial, but no crate or shipping, since the client wanted to come here to get it. It was funny how they had bought a smaller Lancelot finial for it, but liked the photos with this Morgana finial so much they traded me and paid the $100 difference.

They still saved $96.60 from this for the added copper I used over the quoted price.
