As a coincidence this is the 6th in a row Tuscan style design chimney cap we built that all went to the NY/NJ area. This chimney cap was for our client named John Berrigan in Stone Harbor New Jersey through his general contractor: D. L. Minor construction (609-861-2138) in Cape May Court House New Jersey. They had been patiently waiting over 6 months for us to begin this project since they had OK the design, cost and mailed in their 1/2 deposit. There was a minor delay, because our metal supplier had not been able to restock the 10' x 3' plastic coated 20oz copper sheets we use. The contractor had this stone arch built over the chimney (shown above), but this design did not sit well with the owners. As listed at the top of this page, they had a concept drawing made by Paul Kiss of Olivieri, Shousky & Kiss to help the homeowners decide what style of chimney cap would look best on their house. Here is the final diagram we made to scale just before building this chimney cap for them. It went through several revisions before we got all the angles and proportions just right. The inside dimensions of the base needed to be 58.5" x 45.5". The stainless steel screen area has over 2.5 square feet of exhaust area on each of the 4 sides, so the changing direction of the wind cannot cause a resistance compared to the inside diameter of the 3 flues that need venting. There are 6 stainless steel bolts and 14 copper rivets securing each of the 4 columns. The stainless steel screen also adds strength to this construction to resist any high wind situation this chimney cap may encounter there on the coast. There is 40.5' of internal roof bracing here to allow no more than 12" of span between braces and bends, so the roof skin will have a good sturdy support underneath. With the roof being 53" wide and 66" long and the steep 8/12 pitch roof this was the larges roof skin we have made to date. The center had to be made in a single separate piece over 3' long and 2' wide.

David,
I thought you would appreciate pictures of
your masterpiece. Dorothy and I appreciate your workmanship
and above all the care you exhibited in keeping us informed, sharing
pictures of its creation and making certain the specifications were
followed.
We think the cap adds considerable value and
appeal to our a home we value greatly. As you can see from the
pictures, the cap is weathering nicely. Since it's installation in
April, it has already endured several Atlantic storms and
northeasters!
Thank you very much!
John & Dorothy Berrigan
